Balingen City Hall: JAMES RIZZI. A life for art
From 15 August 2020, the time has come: the Stadthalle Balingen and the Tübingen publishing house Art 28 are jointly presenting works by James Rizzi (1950 - 2011) in the Stadthalle Balingen. After a creative break of several years, great art returns to Balingen with the exhibition of the famous Pop Art artist. The comprehensive retrospective of the exceptional New York artist, who would be seventy years old in 2020, is intended to build on the exhibition successes of earlier years, which have attracted countless visitors from near and far to Balingen.

James Rizzi was already in his lifetime one of the most popular artists of all times, a real "pop artist". He became famous through the invention of the 3D paper sculpture and the 3D magnetic pictures, which have been inseparably connected with his name since the 1970s. He has also made a name for himself as a draughtsman and painter of unique acrylic pieces and has left his mark on a wide variety of products - from stamps to cars, from cups to houses. His inimitable personal style, humour and optimism, inherent in all his works, are loved by millions of fans worldwide. After his unexpected death in December 2011, demand for the New York artist's work has exploded. His fans mourn the loss of a great artist and a wonderful person who was a stranger to all star airs and graces. The death of James Rizzi has left a gap in the global art market that will be difficult to close.
